Keypoint Law is delighted to announce that Best Lawyers has recognised Dr Gary Rumble as the 2018 Public Law “Lawyer of the Year” for Canberra.  This coincides with his arrival at the firm as a Consulting Principal.

Dr Rumble is one of Australia’s leading government and constitutional lawyers.  He advises Government on complex policy implementation, ‘litigation-proof’ decision-making, and on defending decisions that are being challenged.  He also advises private sector clients on dealings with Government and on complex regulatory issues.

Dr Rumble has held senior positions in Government including Chief Counsel with the Commonwealth Department of Human Services, and has also been a partner with major law firms Blakes (now Ashurst) and DLA Phillips Fox (now DLA Piper).

Dr Rumble has been included in the Best Lawyers listings every year since their inception.  He is currently recognised in Best Lawyers for his expertise in:

  • Constitutional Law;
  • Government Practice;
  • Public Law; and
  • Regulatory Practice.

Best Lawyers’ declaration this week of Dr Rumble as the 2018 Public Law “Lawyer of the Year” for Canberra is based on feedback and recognition from Dr Rumble’s peers.

Dr Rumble is well known for his work on major Commonwealth Government matters, including:

  • leading the 2011-12 Review of allegations of sexual and other abuse in Defence;
  • acting for the Australian Heritage Commission to defend a challenge in the High Court to the World Heritage listing of the Queensland Wet Tropics and Daintree; and
  • advising the Federal Airports Corporation on all regulatory and environmental issues for its national network of 25 airports.

Keypoint Law is a full-service law firm established in Australia by United Kingdom firm Keystone Law.  The firm is included on the Commonwealth Government’s Legal Services Multi-Use List across all core areas of legal practice and, in 2016, was awarded “Australian Boutique Law Firm of the Year” and “Boutique Diversity Law Firm of the Year” at the Australasian Law Awards and Women in Law Awards, respectively.

Keypoint Law CEO Warren Kalinko stated:

We congratulate Gary on his achievement in being recognised as a leader in the field of Public Law, and we’re delighted that he has joined our firm”.

Dr Rumble commented:

I was attracted by Keypoint Law’s claim of “emphasis on personal service by senior lawyers, with flexible offerings, and low overheads”. I have had a good look behind the scenes. I am confident that Keypoint Law will give me greater flexibility in working with clients to suit their needs than traditional law firms can deliver. I am excited by this opportunity”.
